About the Pennsylvania Medical Cannabis Program

Pennsylvania offers medical cannabis only. The Pennsylvania Medical Marijuana Program was signed into law on April 17, 2016, allowing individuals diagnosed with a qualifying medical condition to legally purchase and consume medical cannabis. To visit a dispensary, patients must hold a valid Pennsylvania medical marijuana ID card, obtained through the Pennsylvania Department of Health after receiving certification from a registered physician.

Is marijuana legal in Pennsylvania?

Yes, medical marijuana is legal in Pennsylvania. The Pennsylvania Medical Marijuana Program was signed into law on April 17, 2016. However, recreational use of marijuana remains illegal in the state.

Under Pennsylvania law, individuals who have been diagnosed with one of the state’s qualifying medical conditions can legally purchase and consume medical cannabis. They must have a certification from a registered physician and a Pennsylvania medical marijuana ID card, which is obtained through the Pennsylvania Department of Health.

Please note that the consumption of medical marijuana is limited to the individual patient to whom it was prescribed. It is illegal to share your medical marijuana with anyone else, even if they are also a registered patient.

How much marijuana is it legal to possess in Pennsylvania?

In Pennsylvania, medical marijuana patients are allowed to purchase up to a 90-day supply of medical marijuana. The exact amount varies based on the individual’s specific needs and the form of marijuana. It is important to note that it is still illegal to possess marijuana in Pennsylvania without a valid medical marijuana ID card.

Additionally, while medical marijuana is legal in Pennsylvania, it is still illegal under federal law. Therefore, it is illegal to bring marijuana across state lines, even if you are traveling to another state where medical marijuana is legal.

How much cannabis can I purchase in Pennsylvania?

Only approved medical marijuana patients and their approved caregivers can purchase marijuana in Pennsylvania, as recreational cannabis is not legal. The amount of cannabis a medical marijuana patient or caregiver may purchase was previously limited to a one-month supply, though the Governor has since signed a law increasing the limit to a three-month (90-day) supply.

Can I buy from a BEYOND / HELLO dispensary in Pennsylvania if I am not a PA resident?

Unfortunately, no. Since cannabis is not legal in Pennsylvania for adult use, only PA residents with a medical marijuana card can purchase from a PA dispensary. In order to be considered eligible as a medical marijuana patient in Pennsylvania, one of the requirements is that you must have a Pennsylvania driver’s license or an ID card issued by the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation. If you have designated a caregiver to purchase or pick up cannabis for you, the caregiver must be a PA resident as well.

Do I need a medical card to visit dispensaries in PA?

How do I get my medical marijuana card in Pennsylvania?

To get a medical marijuana card in Pennsylvania, you must first be diagnosed with one of the state’s qualifying medical conditions. Then, you need to get a certification from a registered physician. Once you have the certification, you can apply for the medical marijuana ID card through the Pennsylvania Department of Health.

Do you have to be a resident to get a medical card in Pennsylvania?

Yes, to qualify for a medical marijuana card in Pennsylvania, you must be a resident of the state. You will need to provide proof of residency during the application process.

Are out-of-state medical cards accepted in Pennsylvania?

No, Pennsylvania dispensaries do not accept out-of-state medical cards. Medical marijuana patients must have a valid Pennsylvania medical marijuana ID card to purchase medical marijuana in the state.

Do I have to be at least 21 years old to visit dispensaries in PA?

Yes, to purchase cannabis under Pennsylvania law, we are required to ensure that patrons are 21 or older and have valid state-issued identification (driver’s license, passport, state ID, etc.). The only individuals allowed in a dispensary without a medical or caregiver card are children under the age of 18 who are accompanied by an adult with a valid medical card. Children may not make any purchases.

If this is my first time at a BEYOND / HELLO dispensary, what do I need to do?

For your first visit, please bring your Pennsylvania medical marijuana ID card and a valid, government-issued photo ID. We recommend placing your order online in advance to make your visit as quick and easy as possible. Our team will be happy to assist you and answer any questions you may have about our products.

Where can I consume medical marijuana in Pennsylvania?

Medical marijuana in Pennsylvania can only be consumed in a private residence. It is illegal to consume medical marijuana in public, in a motor vehicle, on school property, or at any workplace. Always remember to consume responsibly.

Can I give marijuana or marijuana products as a gift?

Only approved caregivers and approved medical marijuana patients 21 or older can purchase marijuana products in the state of Pennsylvania. Medical cannabis patients in Pennsylvania are not permitted to share their medical cannabis with anyone else, even another registered patient.

How does a caregiver purchase a product for a medical patient?

A caregiver can assist a medical marijuana patient in Pennsylvania by purchasing and delivering medical marijuana on their behalf. To become a caregiver, you must apply for a caregiver ID card through the Pennsylvania Department of Health.

Can veterans obtain medical cannabis in Pennsylvania?

Yes, veterans in Pennsylvania can obtain medical cannabis in the same way as any other patient. They must have a qualifying medical condition and get a certification from a registered physician. The Pennsylvania Department of Health offers reduced application fees for veterans.

Will insurance cover my medical marijuana in Pennsylvania?

No, insurance companies in the U.S. do not cover medical marijuana. This includes both private insurance companies and government programs like Medicaid and Medicare.
